Last updated: December 25, 2011

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Jatiya Party Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad has declared that he would lead the long march to the river Teesta from Rangpur between January 15 and 20.

"The farmers are now failing to irrigate their croplands as the Teesta has dried up throwing the country into deep water crisis. We have taken the long march program to press the demand for water sharing agreement of the Teesta with the neighboring country", he said on Saturday night.

Mr. Ershad said this at a meeting with his party leaders and activists of Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions at the Rangpur Circuit House with Rawshan Ershad MP in the chair, according to reports.

The former president said the non-signing of the Teesta Water Treaty with India is causing immense losses and sufferings to the country.
