Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh Taka (BDT) continues to gain strength against US dollar as the local currency appreciated by 0.13 percent against the greenback in the last week.
Terming the current exchange rate of BDT against US$ as fitting for the economy, experts have cautioned that further fall in the exchange rate of US dollar might affect export growth in Bangladesh..
BDT appreciated by 5.74 percent or BDT 4.855 over the last one year, according to the central bank statistics.
The US dollar was quoted at BDT 79.60-BDT79.65 in the inter-bank foreign exchange (forex) market on Thursday last. The exchange rate was at BDT 84.48 on January 29, 2012, the highest ever in the forex market.
“The BDT continues to gain strength against the US dollar because of a rise in inflow of remittances and export earnings. Foreign assistance is also on rise,” a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) told BBN in Dhaka on Saturday.
He also said this trend is likely to continue up to the last party of February this year.
