Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s apex trade body FBCCI formed human chain and observed sit-in across the country Sunday demanding a peaceful end to the ongoing political turmoil and return of trade-friendly atmosphere.
They also demanded enactment of a law to put an end to the prevailing strike and blockade.
The business community, in a desperate move, came with the demands when they were observing the programmes holding national flag in front of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) office in Motijheel, the commercial hub of the country.
"If the ongoing violence continues, strikes should be banned through enacting law," said the FBCCI President Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed.
The chief of the apex trade body of the country was speaking at a rally in front of the FBCCI office.
The FBCCI observed the countrywide programme to protest against the current political volatility and the mounting losses due to continuous agitation by the BNP-led 20-party alliances.
The businessmen from different sectors had counted BDT 750 billion loss in the ongoing political turmoil that started from January 5, the FBCCI president added.
Hundreds of business people from different sectors streamed into Motijheel nearly an hour before the programme began.
In other parts of the country, the entire business community observed the same programme which continued from 12noon to 12:15pm.
So far, 67 people were killed and several hundred including law enforcers were injured in mindless arson attacks during the non-stop blockade and frequent strike.
The BNP-led 20-party alliance has been enforcing the political agitation demanding a fresh election.
