Athens, Greece (BBN)-Nowadays many people, especially women, have the tendency to sacrifice too much for their jobs.
I could say that it’s quite dangerous to be a workaholic, because you work a lot, forgetting about other wonderful things in your life, reports Amerikanki.
It’s even worse, when you forget about your family and friends.
Sure, you might want to improve your professional career, but you could be endangering many others aspects of your life, such as your health, your relationship or your marriage.
I’m a great workaholic, I’m practicing these ways to stop being the one and I can tell they really work! I feel much better, happier and I even become more productive! Hope these seven powerful ways to stop being a workaholic will help you as well! You deserve to live a more enjoyable and meaningful life!
GOOD HEALTH IS ABOVE WEALTH
I’m sure everyone knows this saying, but unfortunately, most of us neglect it.
It’s not healthy to overwork on a daily basis.
I know you are so motivated and eager to be promoted faster that you think your health isn’t so important.
However, working too much really affects your whole body – both mentally and physically.
It’s essential to pay more attention to what you are eating (be sure to eat more fruits and veggies every day!) and try to exercise daily, even if it’s just walking.
Your job won’t help you when you get sick, keep it in mind every time you want to accomplish that extra task.
BE READY TO ANSWER THE CALL OF YOUR BED
Stop thinking if you stay up late you will get your promotion more quickly.
First, your boss may not even notice it – most bosses are selfish and unfair and they usually take their employees for granted.
Second, are you sure you’re not in a dead-end job?
If you want to be successful and productive at work, you should get enough sleep regardless of all the important tasks you should accomplish.
It’s really essential to get 7-8 hours of sleep every night, especially for women who want to have healthy kids, look beautiful and be proud of a flawless skin. If you’re constantly short on shuteye, you can’t be alert and productive.
SET BOUNDARIES
Setting some clear boundaries in your life is one of the best ways to stop being a workaholic.
Be sure to work only during your work hours and don’t stay late at the office.
If you are working from home, like me, make sure you have a schedule that you will follow every single day.
I know how it’s difficult, but when I started to follow my schedule I found it easier to accomplish my tasks on time.
You could divert from your schedule, of course, if you have some really important things to do, but please, don’t turn it into a habit.
FIND A NEW HOBBY
Stop thinking about your job only, and find a new hobby that will help you feel recharged.
But, make sure your new hobby is not work related.
You could choose any hobby you wish, from crafting to diving.
It’s even better if you find a hobby that could involve your family and friends; it will certainly be more fun!
FIND MORE TIME FOR YOUR FRIENDS
One of things that workaholics tend to neglect these days is making time for friends.
Try to find a bit more time for your friends, no matter how busy you are.
While you can’t hang out with them each day, do it at least once a week. And make sure you don’t talk too much about your job.
UNPLUG YOUR INTERNET
Could you do your work without an Internet connection?
If yes, then unplug your Internet.
Why? Because you will focus on your tasks only, not on checking your e-mail or different accounts on the social networks.
Trust me, this way you will get your work done faster, which means you will have more time for many other wonderful things in your life.
SPEND SOME TIME OUTSIDE
Finally, the last important rule to follow when you are fed up with your job is to spend more time outside.
Try to do it every day to lower your stress levels and disconnect from your everyday worries.
I usually take a half hour walk when I have a break. I also go on picnics with my family or friends during the weekend.
Keep in mind that long hours don’t make you an excellent worker, they only harm your health.
If you feel tired, try to take more breaks and focus on the things that make you smile and happy.
