Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Subhash Dutta, an icon of evocative Bangla movies, died at his residence in the capital Dhaka Friday morning due to old age complexities.
The great filmmaker breathed his last around 7:10am at his Ramkrishna Mission Road house. He was 82.
The body of the acclaimed film director will be kept at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka Saturday morning so that his well-wishers and fans can pay their last respects to him.
From the Shaheed Minar, his body will be taken to the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation, generally known as FDC around noon.
Later, he will be cremated at Postogola Crematory on Saturday evening.
Sutorang, the first movie directed by Subhash Dutta, was released in 1964. He was also director of various popular films, including Palabadal, Nouka, Dumurer Ful and Ayna. 
He performed in Ei Desh Tomar Amar, Rajdhanir Bukey, Harano Din, Talash, Sutarang and many other films.
He was born in the country’s northern Dinajpur district in 1930.
Dutta was one of those few great filmmakers who dedicated themselves in establishing cinema as an eloquent medium of art in Bangladesh. And in this enterprise, he made a good number of films that immensely contributed to the making of a golden era of Bangla cinema.
He started his career in the Dhaka film industry at a time when Urdu and Hindi movies were reigning in local movie theatres.
President M Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Opposition Leader and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Finance Minister AMA Muhith expressed profound shock at the death of Subhash Dutta.
In separate messages, they prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
