Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-A devastating fire broke out at a commercial building at Dilkhusha area in the capital Dhaka Saturday afternoon.
However, there was no report of casualties as the day was public holiday.
The blaze originated at around 4:00 pm (local time) at the Bangladesh Industrial Finance Company Limited (BIFC), a non-banking financial institution, office on first floor of the 7th storied building, known as Miah Amanullah Bhabn.
Black smoke caused by fire has covered the nearby areas, and thus reduced the number of vehicular movements and pedestrians, witnesses said.
There are offices located in the building that include Al Arafa Islamic Bank Limited, Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited, Prime Finance and Investment Company and Prime Insurance Company Limited.
Officials of the offices located in the building fear that that their official documents might have been gutted due to flame.
Nine units of fire service team rushed to the spot and have been fighting to control the fire till filling of the report at 8:30 pm, a duty officer at the Fire Service Central Control Room told BBN in Dhaka.
Rafiqul Islam, assistant director of Fire Service, fell sick from the smoke billowing out the building during the firefighting effort and was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and is still under observation, according to reports.
It is not still clear actually what caused the fire.
