Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- As many as 38 bookstalls were burnt in a fire at Amar Ekushey Book Fair at the Bangla Academy in the capital Dhaka on Sunday night.

Fire fighting control room sources said the fire originated from an electric short-circuit at the Direndranath Chattar, near the Bangla Academy pond, around 1:00 am.

Being informed, six fire fighting units along with a standby unit at the book fair immediately rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control, a fire service control room operator, said on Monday.

Director General of the academy Shamsuzzaman Khan said there might be a sabotage behind the fire as power supply was shutdown after 9.00 pm.
