Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – At least four female workers were killed as a devastating fire broke out at a garment factory near Dhaka Export Processing Zone in Ashulia Saturday night.
Harunur Rashid, assistant manager of Women and Children Health Centre in Jamgara in Ashulia, said reportedly that they received four bodies of females aged between 20 and 28.
At least 45 others were rushed to the hospital for treatment, he said, adding 10 of them are being referred to different hospitals in Dhaka as they were in critical condition.
The hospital official said most of the victims — both deceased and injured — suffered injuries after jumping on the ground from different floors of the eight-storey factory building.
Fire service sources said a total of nine fire fighting units from Dhaka, Gazipur and Savar were trying to douse the fire that broke out at Tajnin Fashion at Nishchintopu around 7:05pm.
Sources in the Fire Service and Civil Defence and police said many workers remained trapped on the rooftop of the eight-storey factory building.

The fire fighting units from Dhaka, Gazipur, Savar and Dhamrai were trying to douse the fire when the report was filed around 9:45pm, according to reports.
