Five Tuba Group factories closed

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The Tuba Group authorities have declared their five units closed for an indefinite period under the article 13(1) of the labour law with effect from June 11 last.
A notice signed by the Group's Managing Director Delwar Hossain was put up at the Badda factory. The notice said any decision on reopening the factories would be notified later.   
The five factories are Tuba Fashion Limited, Tuba Textile Mills Limited, Mita Designs Limited, Taif Designs Limited and Bughsan Garment.

Earlier, around 1,600 workers of Tuba Group observed hunger strike for 11 days since July 28 to realise their due wages of three months and Eid bonus.

Later, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, the garment makers' platform, paid the workers' three months' salaries and overtime allowance.
The BGMEA has already disbursed more than BDT 33.40 million ($0.43million) as wages of three months and overtime to 1,417 workers of five Tuba Group factories on behalf of its owner Delwar Hossain.
 
The total bill for the unpaid salaries, overtime and festival bonus amounts to BDT45.69 million ($0.59 million).
