Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – At least 200 workers of an apparel factor fell sick after eating foods provided by the factory management in Savar on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka on Thursday night, police said.
The management of Sterling Creations Limited garment located at Ashulia offered snakes including bread, banana and cakes among their workers in the evening, a police official said. 
He also said the workers were waiting for their salaries, which were expected to be cleared by the afternoon. 
 
As it was evening, the worker became restless for their salaries, he said, adding that then the garment management offered them snakes. 
Nearly 30 minutes after taking the food, the workers started to vomiting and complained uneasiness, the police official said.
He also said at least 200 workers out of around 3000 fell sick and admitted to local Women and Children Health Complex. 
“The incident might have occurred because of food poisoning from the stale food,” the police official said, adding that they have collected sample of foods from the spot.
The sample will be sent to the capital Dhaka on Saturday for examining.
In reaction to the incident, workers of the apparel factory briefly blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway and reportedly vandalized some vehicles late Thursday.
