Foreign minister says economic development through democracy ensures peace, stability

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Foreign Minister Dipu Moni now in Bali said economic development through democracy can ensure sustainable peace and stability in the society.

She made the remarks while acting as a panelist in the interactive session on the second day of Bali Democracy Forum III. Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya also acted as a co-panelist in the session, a foreign ministry press statement said in Dhaka on Friday.

Dipu Moni said extra constitutional military take over time and again disrupted the democratic continuity in Bangladesh but it never able to break the aspirations and resilience of the democracy loving Bengalees.

About the CHT peace accord she said by ensuring the inclusion and participation of the ethnic minorities in the CHT within the political framework and by addressing their concerns and needs, the process of securing long lasting peace in the region is underway.

The foreign minister also talked about women’s empowerment program and their enhanced participation in the political process and decision making.

The interactive session was participated by the ministers and delegates from about 44 countries.
