Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Four committees have been formed to oversee rescue and rehabilitation activities of the Savar tragedy victims.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment has constituted a five-member body, headed by labour director Abu Sayed Khurshidul Alam, to probe the tragic incident.
The body has also been assigned to identify the people responsible for the incident and to figure out the exact number of people injured and dead. The committee has been asked to submit its findings within seven days.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufactures and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has also formed three separate committees to oversee rescue and rehabilitation activities of the Savar tragedy victims.
The committees will look into emergency blood supply, treatment facilities, and collection of information about the garment workers, who were critically injured in the multi-storied Rana Plaza collapse on Wednesday.
The BGMEA teams will be working round-the-clock in this connection. The country’s apex apparel body has already set up two information cells at the BGMEA headquarters and near to the collapsed commercial building at Savar.
Besides, it also installed three blood donation centers – one at the BGMEA headquarters and two others at Savar. Families of the victims can communicate with the info-cells for treatment purpose through the cell-phone numbers: 01718379789 and 01817044677.
“We hope that whoever, either the factory owners or the building authorities, are responsible for the tragic incident, should be brought to book after proper investigation,” BGMEA president Atikul Islam said while speaking at a press briefing at its headquarters in Dhaka on Wednesday evening.
The BGMEA president also demanded exemplarily punishment to the people, to be found responsible for the incident. “As we’ve learnt, the owners of the factories took the decision of continuing production following a positive signal from a local engineer.”
