Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested four people on charge of counterfeiting credit cards from the different parts of the country.

The arrested are Kamal Ahmed alias Nurul Amin, 52, Abdur Rauf, 42, Anwar Hossain, 33, and Mohammad Russel, 34.

Kamal has been involved in fraudulence since 1996 while Anwar is an accused in a credit card fraud case filed with New Market Police Station in 2006, police said.

Rauf was arrested following a case filed with Gulshan Police Station by Brunhilde Descamps, a Swedish national and the country manager of Hemtex Dhaka, a DB official said.

In the case statement, Brunhilde Descamps mentioned that she was supposed to receive her credit card from the Gulshan Post Office. Her company sent it from Sweden in May this year.

Later, the company found that the card, which the woman was yet to receive, was being used by someone else.

The DB official also said the group stole credit cards with the help of employees of Gulshan Post Office.

Using the cards, they purchased goods from different shopping malls and sold the items at a discount, he added.
