Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – A four-day conference between directors general of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Border Security Force (BSF) began at BGB headquarters in Dhaka Wednesday morning, officials said.
BSF director general U K Bansal is leading a 22-member Indian delegation in the biennial Border Coordination Conference here while BGB chief Maj Gen Anwar Hussain is leading a 25-member Bangladeshi delegation.
Different bilateral issues including frontier killings and cross border drug smuggling and human trafficking are expected to discuss at the meeting, a BGB spokesman said.
He also said the delegation of both the sides comprise officials of the home and foreign ministries, survey departments, joint river commission and narcotics and drug control apart from senior officials of the two border forces.
During the talks between the Director Generals of the Border Control Agencies of India and Bangladesh, both sides will discuss the entire gamut of issues related to border management, prevention of cross-border illegal activities like smuggling of cattle, narcotics and other psychotropic drugs and coordination and exchange of information, an Indian high commission statement said in Dhaka earlier.
“They will also assess the implementation of the Coordinated Border Management Plan, which was signed during the visit of the then Home Minister Shri P. Chidambaram to Bangladesh in July 2011,” it said.
In addition, the statement said, the frontier forces chiefs would discuss measures to further enhance cooperation in the areas of joint inspections, maintenance of border pillars and capacity building.
The last Border Conference was held in New Delhi in March 2012.
