Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– The US dollar eased on Tuesday against Bangladesh Taka (BDT) after the central bank intervened in the market by selling the greenback to commercial banks.
“We’ve sold US$30 million to a state-owned commercial bank on the day to meet the growing demand for the US dollar,” a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) said, adding that such intervention may continue in line with the market requirement.
The US dollar was quoted at BDT 70.5150-BDT 70.5200 in the inter-bank foreign exchange market on Tuesday against BDT 70.5400- BDT 70.5500 of the previous working day, market operators said.
On September 28 this year, the central bank started intervention in the foreign exchange market aiming to keep the market stable.
“The demand for US dollar may ease further in the near future,” a senior treasury official of a commercial bank said without elaborating.
