Gazette on Bangladesh’s national broadcast policy published

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-The Bangladesh government published the gazette notification of the much criticised National Broadcast Policy 2014 on Thursday.

Akhtaruzzman Talukder, the senior assistant secretary of the information secretary, has signed the gazette notification.

The gazette notification was published three days after the cabinet gave its final approval to the draft of national broadcast policy.

Immediately after the draft policy was passed, the government faced a widespread criticism from different quarters including media, rights groups and political parties.

Under the policy, all contents of radio and television will come under strict government monitoring net.

False, discriminatory and misleading information and statistics must be avoided in news and programmes, said the draft policy.
