Government fixes soybean oil prices

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The government has fixed the mill gate rate of unpacked soybean oil at BDT 76 per litre while palm super at BDT 72 and palm oil at BDT 69 to keep the prices of this essential item stable in the local market.
The new rates will be effective from on Friday, officials said. 
Commerce Secretary Gholam Hossain announced the fresh prices of the edible oil after a meeting with the leaders of Bangladesh Edible Oil Refiners Association (BEORA) and other stakeholders at his secretariat office in Dhaka on Thursday.
The meeting also fixed the retail level price of unpacked soybean oil at BDT 80 and palm super at BDT 76 and palm oil at BDT 73 per litre.
The country has a stock of 0.12 million tons edible oil at private sector level and some 50,000 tons are waiting to be unloaded at the port, according to reports. 
The average demand of edible oil is 0.1 million tons a month and it rises to 0.15 million tons during the holy month of Ramadan.
