Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The commerce ministry has started its market-monitoring program aiming to check price hike of essentials during the holy months Ramadan, officials said.

Four monitoring teams of the commerce ministry started monitoring the city’s 19 kitchen markets from Monday aiming to keep price stable of essentials in the markets during the Ramadan.

The teams are checking the supply and storage situation, mill-gate prices and wholesale and retail prices of 11 listed essential items like rice, flour, lentils, edible oil, milk, onion, meat, potato, sugar and eggs.

Zilla and Upazila level task forces will also be formed for monitoring the markets of essential commodities, they added.

The monitoring teams include representatives from the commerce, home, agriculture, food, industry ministries, federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and Dhaka City Corporation (DCC).
