Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Grameenphone (GP) Limited, a leading mobile phone operator, and bKash jointly launched bKash mobile financial services for in Bangladesh at a city hotel recently.

Under the new service, a GP customer with a registered bKash account to access and avail bKash mobile financial services from his/her mobile handset, from anywhere in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Atiur Rahman formally launched the service where Secretary of Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MOPT) Sunil Kanti Bose, Vice Chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory commission (BTRC) Gias Uddin Ahmed and senior management team members of BRAC Bank were present, among others.

The central bank chief has hailed the GP authority for initiating a latest idea like bKash.

“It is really praiseworthy that Grameenphone has initiated in collaboration with US based institution ‘bKash’ a bank-led mobile banking initiative to facilitate formal financial services for their customers,” the BB governor noted.

The bKash, a majority owned subsidiary of BRAC Bank Ltd, is licensed by the Bangladesh Bank as a payment system operator (PSO) and operates a mobile money platform allowing the people of Bangladesh to safely store, transfer and receive money.
