Grameenphone signs payments deal with Citibank

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Grameenphone, the country’s leading mobile phone operator, has recently signed Citibank, N.A. to execute payments across the country through the Bangladesh Electronic Fund Transfer Network (BEFTN) using CitiDirect, Citibank's electronic banking platform.

Parvez Murshed, Director and Global Transaction Services Head -Bangladesh of Citibank, N.A. and Mainur Rahman Bhuiyan, Deputy Director and Head of Corporate Finance and Treasury of Grameenphone signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations. Other senior officials of both the organization were present at the signing ceremony.

Commenting on the agreement, Parvez Murshed said, "Citibank is an active supporter of the BEFTN initiative in Bangladesh. With our enhanced electronic banking platform - CitiDirect - our clients will benefit immensely from the secure and faster settlement of interbank fund transfer. We thank Bangladesh Bank for this landmark initiative. "

Mainur Rahman Bhuiyan said, "We are delighted to be able to process our payments through Citibank, N.A. using its sophisticated payments proposition. Our objective is to reduce the turnaround time and also to eliminate paper-based processing by using this modern payment system. We believe that this will help us to serve our business partners in a better and faster manner."
