Green chili price shoots up during Eid holidays

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The prices of green chili and cucumber shoot up in the capital Dhaka kitchen markets while prices of other kitchen items remained high during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays, traders said.

They also claimed that the prices had gone up due to supply crunch on the occasion of the Eid holidays while buyers alleged that the retailers have hiked the prices to make extra profits.

On Thursday, the prices of green chili varied from BDT 160 to BDT 200 per kg some city markets, against BDT 120 to BDT 140 per kg, in the previous week.

Cucumber was selling for BDT 60 to BDT 80 a kg in different kitchen markets against its price of BDT 45 to BDT 60 a kg a week ago.
Brinjal prices stood high and were selling at BDT 50-BDT 60 a kg, papaya at BDT 25 a kg, okra at BDT 40 to BDT 50 a kg and bitter gourd at BDT 50 a kg on Thursday.

Onion price remained high and was selling for BDT 90 to BDT 100 a kg in the kitchen markets.
