Last updated: August 14, 2024

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - A case has been filed today with the investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal against Bangladesh former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and eight others, accusing them of crimes against humanity and genocide allegedly committed between July 15 and August 5 of this year.

The case was initiated by Md Bulbul Kabir, the father of Arif Ahmed Siyam, who was killed during recent protests.

The complaint also names the Awami League, along with its affiliated organizations—Jubo League, Chhatra League, and other front groups—as defendants.

Gazi MH Tamim, a Supreme Court lawyer and defense counsel for several individuals previously accused of war crimes, confirmed the filing.

The complaint was lodged at the agency’s head office in Dhanmondi around 1:30pm today.

"The application has been accepted, and the investigation is now underway," Tamim stated.

Ataur Rahman, deputy director of the agency, confirmed that the complaint has been registered, and an investigation has begun.

"Once the investigation is complete, the report will be submitted to the Chief Prosecutor's Office of the tribunal for further action," Rahman added.

The trial of the case will proceed following the submission of the report.

This legal action follows closely after Law Adviser Asif Nazrul announced that the interim government would initiate trials related to the deaths that occurred during the students' protests at the International Crimes Tribunal.
