Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Visiting US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Saturday urged all political parties of Bangladesh to resolve disputes through talks.
Addressing a joint press conference with her Bangladeshi counterpart Dipu Moni, she said, "All political actors should together and resolve disputes.”
"Democracy must flourish in Bangladesh and we want a sustained democratic process in Bangladesh,” the US secretary of states told the news conference after a bilateral talks at the Prime Minister's Office in the capital Dhaka Saturday evening.
At the official talks that lasted for around an hour from 5:55pm, Hillary headed a seven-member US delegation and Dipu Moni led a 10-man Bangladesh team.
Hillary expressed her concern at the incidents of secret killing and disappearance of people including that of missing BNP leader M Ilias Ali and murdered labour leader Aminul Islam.
"We condemn all killings and disappearances," she said and asked the government to ensure an independent enquiry into the incidents.
Hilary also said Washington considers Bangladesh and India as two important countries in South Asia and wants the two nations to lead in different fronts in the international arena.
"I would not be the (US) secretary of States next year but I want to see our partnership with Bangladesh and India, two important countries to US, to develop and flourish . . . we want to see them as leaders in many fronts," she noted.
She also said that Bangladesh already appeared as a world leader in peacekeeping missions in troubled torn corners of the globe under the UN umbrella.
