Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh National Hockey team leaves Dhaka for Singapore on Wednesday to take part in the first round of the inaugural Hockey World League with the hope to clinch the group title.
The first round group matches will be held in Singapore from August 31 to September 2.
Bangladesh has been grouped with Thailand, Hong Kong and hosts Singapore in round one of the meet, in which some 60-70 countries will participate from all over the world.
Bangladesh will take on Hong Kong in their first match on August 31, meet hosts Singapore on September 1 in the 2nd match and play Thailand on September 2 in their 3rd and last group match.
Bangladesh Squad: Mamunur Rahman Choyon (Captain), Mahbub Ullah Chowdhury Shakil, Md. Zahid Hossain, Ashim Kumar Gope, Moshiur Rahman Biplob, Imran Hasan Pintu, Khorshedur Rahman, Tapash Barman, Asaduzzaman Chandan, Rokanuzzaman Sohag, AAHM Kamruzzaman Rana, Sarwar Hossain, Sheikh Mohammed Nannu, Shahidullah Titu, Krishna Kumar, Moinul Islam Koushik, Russel Mahmud Jimmy, Hasan Zubair Niloy, Pushkar Khisa Mimo and Iqbal Nadir Prince.
Officials: Mohammed Yusuf Ali (Manager), Musaddek Hossain Chowdhury Pappu (Assistant Manager), Mahbub Harun (Coach), Zahid Hossain Raju (Assistant Coach) and Selim Reza Sarder (Umpire).
Addressing a press conference at the NSC conference room Tuesday, Bangladesh team captain Mamunur Rahman Chayan said: “We’re hopeful of returning as the group champions.”
Bangladesh is ranked 40th in the 74 countries of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) World ranking.
