Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) Limited in Bangladesh has announced the appointment of Ahmed Saiful Islam as the Bank’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) with effect from 1 January 2012.

Mr Saif replaces Sairam Santharam who, after completing his six-month-assignment as COO, has returned to HSBC’s regional office in Hong Kong.

Before assuming the COO role, Ahmed Saiful Islam was the Head of Global Payments and Cash Management at HSBC, Bangladesh.

Saif has worked in HSBC and Citibank in various capacities and across different functions of payments and cash management, and global transaction banking.

An MBA of the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand, Saif also holds a Master in European Business from E M Lyon Graduate School of Management, France and a BBA from IBA, Dhaka University.

Commenting on his appointment, HSBC Bangladesh chief executive officer Sanjay Prakash shared his optimism that the bank’s operations excellence will grow from strength to strength under Ahmed Saiful Islam’s leadership.

“With a strong background in banking services and cash management, Mr Saif is in an ideal position to drive continuous improvement and customer focus in our technology and services teams,” Mr Sanjay added.
