Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- HSBC-The Daily Star Climate Awards-2012 has launched to recognize and encourage the individuals and the organizations actively working towards preserving environment and tackling climate change risks.
A leading international bank-Hong-Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) and country's largest English daily-The Daily Star jointly announced the launching of the annual awards for the third time at a press conference at a city hotel on Sunday.
The press conference was addressed by Mahfuz Anam, editor of The Daily Star, Steve Ball, chief financial officer of HSBC Bangladesh, AHM Maqsood Sinha, executive director of the program's knowledge partner Waste Concern, and Talukdar Noman Anwar, head of marketing and communications of HSBC Bangladesh.
The awards aim to honour the persons and the organizations serving to protect environment and mitigate climate change hazards by their green business, environment-friendly operations, community investment or/and knowledge management.
The Climate Champion awards-2012 will be given in 4 categories such as Green Business, Green Operations (companies with 100 per cent Bangladeshi ownership, and companies with full or partial foreign ownership), Knowledge Management and Community Engagement.

Completed nomination forms need to be sent to Waste Concern's office on or before 31 October 2012, the organizers said.
