Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Popular novelist and playwright Humayun Ahmed returned home from the United States after eight months.
The Bengali fiction writer arrived at Hazrat Shahajalal International Airport in the capital Dhaka Friday morning and went straight to ‘Nuhash Palli’ in Gazipur where he will stay for 20 days before going back to Bellevue Hospital for operation.
“I’m happy but I would have been happier if I had returned forever after completing treatment,” Mr. Ahmed, who has been suffering from cancer, was quoted by the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS)as saying.
“But after touching the soil of the country, I thought one of the 20 days has gone.only 19 days are left,” he said, adding, “It is Nuhash Palli that I missed most .the trees and the garden and the natural beauty of the Palli”.
“Also I missed my mother, the friends and the relatives,” said the writer flanked by his wife Meher Afroz Shaon and two sons Nishad and Ninit who also came back home with him.
Mr. Ahmed went to New York on September 13 last year for cancer treatment. His treatment is now at third stage as the doctors have decided to operate upon his colon at the Bellevue Hospital in New York and before the operation, he decided to stay in Bangladesh for 20 days.
He has already been given twelve chemo-therapies to contain the spread of cancer, according to the report.
