Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The body of acclaimed writer and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed arrived in the capital Dhaka Monday morning.
A flight of Emirates Airlines carrying the body of the popular writer landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital at about 9:00 am.
Foreign Secretary Mijarul Quayes, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, LGED State Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak and personalities from different Sangskritik Jote also received the body of the best storyteller.
Besides, Humayun’s two brothers Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and Ahsan Habib, son Nuhash and two daughters Shila and Nova were present at the airport.
His wife Meher Afroz Shaon, two sons Nishad and Ninith, mother-in-law Tahura Ali, sister-in-law Senjuti Afroz and friend Mazharul Islam came with the coffin on board the flight from John J Kenney Airport in New York.
A white ambulance decorated with flower carrying the body started from the airport around 9:30am for Central Shaheed Minar where his body was kept from 11:00am to 2:00pm for friends, fans and well-wishers to pay their last respects.
Meanwhile, after her arrival at the airport, Shaon reportedly told reporters that Humayun's last wish was to be buried at Nuhash Palli.
Earlier, permanent representative of Bangladesh to the UN Abdul Momen and hundreds of fans of Humayun were present at John F Kennedy Airport in New York when the flight took off for home at 11:20 pm (NY time) on Saturday.
The popular fiction writer's first janaza was held at the Jamaica Muslim Centre in New York after juma prayers on Friday. Several thousands fans and admirers joined the janaza to pray for the departed soul of their favourite writer.
Humayun Ahmed died at 11:30pm Thursday (Bangladesh time) at Bellevue Hospital, New York, after a nine-month battle against cancer, bringing the curtains down on an illustrious career of nearly four decades. He was 64.
Nicknamed Kajol, the writer was born in Kutubpur village of Netrakona on November 13, 1948, to Fayzur Rahman Ahmed, a police officer, and Ayesha Fayzur.
