Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited awarded scholarships to 800 underprivileged meritorious students 2017’ at Krishibid Institution Auditorium, Dhaka on January 28, 2017, Saturday.
Dr. Moshiur Rahman, Advisor, Economic Affairs to Prime Minister of the Government of Bangladesh, distributed scholarships and academic materials among the students through ‘Islami Bank Scholarship Program- as Chief Guest.
Presided over by Arastoo Khan, Chairman of the Bank, the function was addressed by Prof Syed Ahsanul Alam, Vice Chairman, Major General (retd.) Engineer Abdul Matin, Chairman, Executive Committee, Md. Abdul Mabud, PPM, Chairman, Risk Management Committee as special guests. Md Abdul Hamid Miah, Managing Director and CEO of the Bank delivered the welcome address.
Md. Mizanur Rahman, Directors, senior executives, students and their guardians were present at scholarship program.
A total of 800 underprivileged meritorious students who obtained GPA-5 in HSC in 2015 were awarded scholarships for graduate-level study.
Dr. Moshiur Rahman, in his speech as the chief guest said, Islami Bank’s scholarship program is a brave and patriotic initiative.
He said, this program is complementary support to the Government’s policy.
With emphasis on science and technical education, he urged the Scholarship awarded students to work for the development of the country.
In presidential address, Arastoo Khan said, since inception, Islami Bank has been working for the country overall economic development and welfare of the people by giving priority to education and the health sectors.
The Bank has provided scholarships to over 3.3 million students under CSR program, he said.
Islami Bank will be converted to the nation building apparatus, he added.
Professor Syed Ahsanul Alam said, economic development deserves equal opportunities and equitable distribution of resources.
Islami bank has been working in attaining this noble purpose.
IBBL Rural Development Scheme has taken ‘poverty eradication’ movement in the country.
He urged the students to apply their merit and qualifications for the development of the country.
Major General (retd.) Engineer Abdul Matin said, the present government showcased the development dream to the nation and taken comprehensive initiative to this respect.
Islami Bank is working to implement this initiative as a partner of government.
He urged the students to win the poverty and employ their ability to the country’s forward.
Md. Abdul Mabud PPM said, education is a fundamental right of the people.
Islami Bank has been assisting to the poor and disadvantaged students in availing this right.
Through the development of human resources, this initiative will play a vital role in order to making the country into a middle-income one.
In his welcome address, Md. Abdul Hamid Miah said, Since its inception, the bank has been participating in social activities.
He called upon the students to engage them in the country’s economic development process.
