Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd (IBBL) has donated BDT 1.0 million to Jalalabad Education Trust (JET) as scholarship in a bid to develop the country’s education sector.   
On behalf of the organization, Finance Minister AMA Muhith received cheque of the money from Mohammad Abdul Mannan, managing director of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited at a scholarship distribution programme of the students of Sylhet division on Friday.     
Dr Farashuddin, JET chairman, Dr AK Abdul Mubin, president of Jalalabad Association, Abdul Hamid Chowdhury, chairman of Jalalabad Building Trust and Azam J Chowdhury, chairman of East Cost Group, were among others, present.  
The IBBL has been working in development of the county’s education sector since its beginning. The Bank spent a total of BDT 829 million in education sector during the last 30 years benefitting more than 0.50 population. 
The IBBL has donated BDT 150 million in constructing building of Prayas School, Jessore Campus for the handicapped children run by Bangladesh Army, the bank said in a statement.  
It spent BDT 6.2million scholarship for 24 PhD researchers during 2007-14. Besides the Bank arranges regular scholarship for 12 hundred HSC and graduate level student per year.
