Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-The Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd (IBBL) was the top remittance receiver among the banks with $ 3.913 billion in 2012 against $ 3.165 billion in the previous calendar year.
The state-owned Sonali Bank Limited slipped to third position in 2012, receiving remittances amounting to $ 1.427 billion, from second place a year ago while Agrani Bank Limited scaled up its position, securing second place by collecting $ 1.429 billion, according to the central bank statistics, released on Wednesday.
More than eight million Bangladeshi overseas workers remitted $ 14.175 billion, a record in the country’s history, in 2012, marking a 16.49 per cent growth over that of the previous calendar year.
