Washington (BBN)-The IMF has expressed deepest sympathy to the victims of earthquake-devastated Nepal and said it along with World Bank, ADB, and other agencies are assessing the disaster impact to determine how best they can help.
The words of sympathy and the assurance came immediately after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck an area of central Nepal between the capital, Kathmandu, and the city of Pokhara Saturday morning.
I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the government and people of Nepal for the loss of life and devastation as a result of the massive earthquake,” said the Managing Director of International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde in a press statement issued on April 25
The latest figures of Nepal home ministry say 1,805 people were killed and 4,718 people were injured.
There were also victims in India, Bangladesh, in the Chinese region of Tibet and on Mount Everest, where avalanches were triggered.
An IMF team stands ready to visit Nepal at short notice to help the government assess the macroeconomic situation and determine any financing needs,” added the statement of the IMF high-ups.
We are also coordinating closely with the World Bank, ADB, and other agencies to assess the impact of the natural disaster on the country and determine how best we can help,” it said.
