Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The India authorities have issued gazette notification allowing duty and quota-free access of 46 Bangladesh products to their market with immediate effect.

“The notification was issued on Thursday as I have requested Indian commerce and industry minister Anand Sharma to do it immediately to avert any bureaucratic tangle,” Bangladesh Commerce Minister Faruq Khan disclosed while speaking at a program at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Friday.

He said Indian formally gave 46 Bangladeshi apparel products duty and quota-free access to its market during Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s Dhaka visit. Such a gazette notification is required to complete official procedures.

“Now, there are no obstacles to export 46 Bangladeshi apparel products to India,” he added, according to reports.

The commerce minister said there are 434 more Bangladeshi products in the negative list of India and urged the Indian government to exclude these items from the negative list and allow duty-free access to its market.

“We’ll continue our talks with Indian government on this issue and I am hopeful that India would take a positive decision about it,” he noted.
