Agartala,India (BBN)- India and Bangladesh signed an agreement on real-time information sharing to curb cross-border crime at the two-day district-level border conference held in Tripura.
A wide range of issues like smuggling, trans-border crime, insurgent movement, narcotics, human trafficking and cattle lifting were discussed between officials of the two countries, reports Zeenews.India.com.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the talks and said that dialogue not only helped in mutually sorting disputes at grass-root level but also played a part in confidence building between New Delhi and Dhaka.
A 25-member delegation from Bangladesh including District Commissioner-cum-Magistrates (DCMs), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officials and senior police official of four bordering districts- Brahmanbaria, Moulavi Bazar, Rangamati and Habiganj – attended the crucial border talks that culminated on Wednesday.
The issues related to four districts of Bangladesh and Tripura were tabled on last day of the dialogue.
“We have taken some decision, which is to be resolved in our level and which is to be taken to our higher authorities.
I am very much grateful and thankful to the Government of India,” said Bangladesh’s Moulvibazar Area Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Kamrul Hasan.
Officials of both sides maintained that frequent dialogue should take place at regular intervals as it helped in better coordination and improving ties.
“I am sure whatever decision we have collectively taken in two days, we are going to implement and I hope we would take the relationship with Bangladesh to a higher level,” said West Tripura District Magistrate and Collector Abhishek Singh.
Similar conferences would also be held in north-eastern states of Assam and Meghalaya in the coming days to sort out the border issues.
