New Delhi, India (BBN)- India detected 159 more cases of the deadly Influenza A (H1N1) virus on Thursday, putting the total number of cases in the country to 2,401, the health ministry officials said.

Of the 159 new cases that tested positive for swine flu, 66 came from Pune, 18 from Mumbai, 13 from Bangalore, 11 from New Delhi, six from Aurngabad, four from Dhule, three each from Nashik, Udaipur, Davagere and Vishakhapatnam, two each from Osmanabad and Hubh and one each from Washim, Solapur, Beed, Parbhani, Chengalpattu, Gadag, Idukki, Trivandrum, Ernakulam, Noida, Bareilly, Rohtak and Raipur, according to a health ministry press statement.

So far, 12,604 people have been tested and 2,401 of them are positive for Influenza A (H1N1). A total 797 out of the 12,604 tested have been identified through entry screening, 1,740 people through contact tracing and the rest were self reported, the statement added.

“A central team is stationed in Maharashtra to assist the state government in instituting appropriate public health measures,” the ministry said.
