Indian finance minister visits Bangladesh May 5-6

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Indian Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will pay an official visit to Bangladesh from May 5-6 as the representative of the Government of India to the inaugural session of the closing ceremony of the joint celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.
Mr. Mukherjee will be accompanied by a seven-member official delegation and a media team, a foreign ministry press statement said on Monday.
 
During the visit, apart from attending the inaugural program on morning of May6, Mr. Mukherjee will call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and senior leadership of the government and discuss issues of mutual interest.
 
The visit of Mr. Mukherjee is part of the sustained engagement between the leadership of Bangladesh and India for harnessing available synergies and commonalities for mutual benefit. 
The visit follows the landmark exchange of visits of between Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh to India in January 2010 and Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India to Dhaka in September 2011.
