Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The sale of Indian gold-plated gorgeous imitation jewellery has increased in the local market due to the skyrocketing price of gold ornaments and on going wedding season, traders said.
 
“The demand for bridal sets which include necklace, shita har, bangel, long jhumka, ring, nose pin, and other items is very good now. The price ranges from BDT 5000 to BDT 40,000 as per design, material and making,” a salesman of Star world at Bahundhara city shopping mall in Dhaka said.
He also said mainly the clients are very much interested to buy wedding sets as the price of gold is beyond the capacity of middle income group people. Mostly they like the ornaments made in India.
 
For the bride-to look like a complete South Asian Bride-a number of jewelries are a must. The bride must wear a Tikli of Tikka, a nose ring (large) with a chain and optionally a Jhapta or ShitaPati, ‘Tikli’, finger ring, nose ring and ‘Jhapta’, chains, nose pins, nose ring, jhumka, shagorika, kanpasha, toe-rings, armlets, mantasha, bracelets and anklet (payal) and crown (taj).
 
One bhori (11.664 gram = a bhori)-22-carat Tk 59,486, 21-carat Tk 56,807, 18-carat Tk 48,697 and the traditional gold Tk 36,858 per bhori, according to the BJS.
Some shop owners provide 50 per cent resale value for Indian imitation jewellery items. Wedding guests also comes to buy gorgeous imitation ornament set matching with her Saree or Salwar-Kameez.
 
The big wholesale market of imitation ornaments is situated at Chawkbazar in Old Dhaka. The city dwellers can buy the same from different markets, like – Eastern Plaza, Bashundhara City, Rapa Plaza, New Market, Gausia, Chandni Chalk, Karnaphuli Garden City and Twin Towers.
