Indian Navy Chief Verma on a five-day visit to Bangladesh

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Chief of the Indian Navy Admiral Nirmal Verma, PVSM, AVSM, ADC is now on a five-day visit to Bangladesh at the invitation of Bangladesh Navy Chief Vice Admiral Zahir Uddin Ahmed, (ND), ndc, psc.

Admiral Verma is expected to call on President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and meet senior officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, an India High Commission press statement said in Dhaka on Sunday.

During his stay the Indian Navy chief will visit Chittagong, Mongla and Khulna.

On the occasion, Indian Naval Ship AIRAVAT will visit Chittagong from April 3-7, on a goodwill visit. INS Airavat is the third ship of SHARDUL Class and was built in India.

The ship can be effectively used for HADR (Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief) missions during natural calamities like tsunami, cyclone, earthquake etc, and can operate independently at high seas for as long as 45 days.

INS AIRAVAT is based at Visakhpatnam under the command and control of Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command. INS Airavat will be open to visitors from 11am to 4pm on April 5, at NCT-5, Chittagong Port.
