Mumbai, India (BBN) - Extending gains for the sixth straight session, the rupee strengthened by another 24 paisa to 67.63 against the dollar in early trade on sustained dollar selling by banks and exporters.
Dealers said dollar’s weakness against a basket of other currencies overseas gave the domestic currency more muscle, reports PTI.
The domestic unit hovered in a range of 67.68 and 67.63 before quoting at 67.66, up 21 paisa at 10.25 am local time.
The rupee had gained 8 paisa to close at a one-month high of 67.87 against the US currency yesterday on sustained selling of the dollar by exporters and banks ahead of the Union Budget to be presented Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex was trading lower by 16.6 points or 0.06 per cent at 27,639.36.
