India's power secretary arrives in Bangladesh Tuesday

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Indian Power Secretary P Uma Shankar is scheduled to arrive in the capital Dhaka on Tuesday.
Several deals are expected to be inked during the four-day visit.
Shankar will co-chair, with his Bangladeshi counterpart Monwarul Islam, a meeting of the India-Bangladesh Joint Steering Committee on Power Cooperation.
Also, there will be a meeting of the India-Bangladesh Friendship Power Company, a joint venture between NTPC Ltd of India and Bangladesh Power Development Corporation.
The joint venture was formed to build a 1,320mw thermal power project at Rampal in Khulna.
In addition to reviewing the progress on the Rampal project, Indian Power Secretary will also discuss the progress in the procurement of 500 MW power from India, and initiatives to expand cooperation in the sector between India and Bangladesh.
