Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The central bank has asked all the scheduled banks not to allow cash withdrawals of more than Tk 4.0 lakh only for this week instead of Tk 3.0 lakh earlier.
The Bangladesh Bank (BB) has hiked the limit once in each of the previous three weeks, which it imposed after the deterioration of the law and order and overall security situation in the country since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5.
Initially the BB slapped the restriction on withdrawal of over Tk 1 lakh as banks were facing challenges in transferring cash from one place to another.
The central bank earlier instructed the banks to monitor transactions through cheques and block any suspicious transfer of funds, officials said.
The cash withdrawal limit has been enhanced as security concerns have been gradually easing, officials explained.
Earlier the central bank had advised the banks to encourage the depositors to pay their parties through crossed checks instead of cash.
