Individual Allowed to Withdrawal Maximum BDT 0.20M

Last updated: August 10, 2024

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The central bank has asked all the scheduled banks not to allow cash withdrawals of more than BDT 0.20 million (two lakh) only for this week amid the ongoing unstable situation.

The banks have also been suggested encouraging the depositors to pay their parties through crossed checks instead of cash.

Earlier on Thursday, the banks were asked not to allow cash withdrawals of more than BDT 0.10 million (one lakh) on the same ground.

On the other hand, people are still facing a cash crisis, as most of the open ATM (automated teller machine) booths have no cash while many banks kept the booths closed amid fears of looting.

Security concerns gripped the country since August 06 when police officials went for a work abstention, citing fears for their own safety amid reports of deadly attacks on policemen the previous night.

Looting of state houses, offices along with shops began when Sheikh Hasina fled the country after resigning from the post of prime minister on August 05 amid countrywide student protests.
