Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Inflation on a point-to-point basis fell substantially in July this year, thanks to an adequate supply of boro rice on the market, officials said.

The country’s overall consumers’ price index (CPI) inflation fell 1.44 percentage points in July, compared to June, and stood at 7.26 percent, according to the state-run Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data.

The food inflation in July in urban areas was recorded at 9.01 percent and rural areas at 8.58 percent, they added.

However, the non-food inflation remains low in both urban and rural areas at 3.93 per cent and 5.23 percent respectively.

The food inflation hit nearly 12 percent in urban areas in June 2010.
