Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Jahangirnagar University (JU) authority expelled temporarily three of its students on charge of severely injuring a student of English department, who died on Monday.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of JU syndicate on the day, a JU press statement said.

The expelled students are: Khandker Ashikul Islam and Khan M Rois of Zoology department and M Rashedul Islam of philosophy department. They are the students of 4th year of the academic session 2007-2008.

They allegedly attacked with sharp weapons Zubair Ahmed, a third year student of English Department on Sunday evening, when he was returning home.

Meanwhile, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members arrested Ashiqur Rahman, a final year student of Zoology Department, from Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall Monday morning in connection with the killing of Jubayer, according to reports.

Registrar of the JU reportedly said an investigation team of six members was formed with Pro Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Forhad Hossain at the top.

Other members of the team are: Professor SM Bodiar Rahman, Professor M Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, Professor M Arzu Mia, Kabirul Bashar and an administrative officer of the JU.

The severely injured student was sent to Enam Medical College Hospital and from there he was admitted to United Hospital where he died early this morning

A case was filed with Ashulia thana.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Sharif Enamul Kabir expressed his deep sympathy to the members of the deceased’s family.
