Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Hours after Bangladesh Supreme Court upheld the death penalty for Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujaheed for his crimes against humanity, Jamaat-e-Islami has called a 24-hrs general strike across the country from Wednesday morning.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the death penalty of condemned war criminal Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujaheed, rejecting his plea for reviewing the capital punishment for his crimes against humanity that he had committed during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.
Mujaheed, 67, had led a “death squad” named Al-Badr that worked as an auxiliary force for the Pakistani army during the Liberation War of the country, according to verdict.
The strike will continue till 6:00am Thursday beginning from the same time Wednesday morning, said a statement of Jamaat released by Makbul Ahmad, the acting ameer (chief) of the party, on Tuesday.
