Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Jamaat-e-Islami called a dawn-to-dusk strike in Bangladesh for November 19 protesting the Supreme Court denial of reviewing the death penalty handed down to party leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujaheed.

The Bangladesh Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected the petition of Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mujaheed filed to review its previous ruling upholding the death penalty for his crimes against humanity committed during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.

Jamaat announced the strike immediately after the verdict was announced.

The same court also upheld the death penalty to another condemned war criminal BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury for his war crimes during the War of Independence of Bangladesh in 1971.

The shutdown will continue from 6:00am to 6:00pm Thursday, said a statement of Jamaat’s acting Ameer (chief) Mokbul Ahmed on Wednesday.
