Jamuna Fertiliser factory shut down

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Jamuna Fertilizer Factory was shut down due to technical glitch early Friday, a senior official of the state-run enterprise said.

The fertilizer factory was shut down at about 5:30am (local time) on the day due to technical problems, General Manager (marketing) of the Jamuna Fertilizer Company Limited Zahidul Bari reportedly said.

The general manager also hoped that production in the factory would resume soon after the repair work.

Earlier, the factory had resumed production on September 5 after a long closure due to gas crisis.

The Jamuna Fertilizer Company Limited situated at Tarakandi upazila under the country’s northwestern Jamalpur district. It has annual production capacity of 561,000 metric tones, the company said.

With the commissioning of the 6th Urea Fertilizer plant Jamuna Fertilizer Company Ltd., Bangladesh has not yet attained self-sufficiency in meeting a vital agriculture input, the country has attained the capability of producing high quality granular urea.
