Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Janmashtami, the birth festival of Lord Shree Krishna and one of the major religious festivals of the members of the Hindu community, was observed in Dhaka and elsewhere across the country on Thursday with due religious fervour and jubilation.
On the occasion, colourful Janmashtami processions depicting blissful and eventful birth and the life of Lord Krishna were brought out in the capital, divisional cities and district headquarters.
Other programs of the day included offering of puja, prayer and Geeta Yogya, discussion, colourful marches, cultural functions, distribution of ‘prasad’ and feeding of the destitute.
In separate messages on the eve of the festival, President M Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted the members of the country’s Hindu community and wished them happiness and well-being.
The day was a public holiday.
In the capital Dhaka, the Jatiya Janmashtami Udjapan Parishad and Mahanagar Sarbojanin Puja Committee organised elaborate programmes at Dhakeshwari National Temple (Mandir) while a colourful procession was brought out from the temple in the afternoon marking the festival.
In port city Chittagong, Janmashtami Udjapan Parishad organised elaborate programmes in observance of the festival. The Janmashtami was also observed in Rajshahi, Khulna, Rangpur, Sylhet and Barisal divisional headquarters with festivities.
