Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Lottery for plot allocation of  Jhilmil Residential Area project will be held in the capital Dhaka on April 11 this year, officials said on Thursday.
The Rajdhani Unnyan Kartipakkha (RAJUK) has already handed over the materials relating to the lottery to Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) to randomly select winners among the applicants in the project.
Nearly 30 applicants are contesting for one plot under the project as the city development authorities have already completed all formalities to hold lottery on the day.
A total of 35,000 persons applied for 1200 plots in the key scheme, aimed at resolving the growing housing problem in the overpopulated capital Dhaka.
“The lottery will be held at Osmani Auditorium in Dhaka on Wednesday next,” a RAJUK senior official told BBN, adding that the applicants may attend the lottery after showing their applications documents.
The city development authority in June last year had invited applications for allotment of plots in the Jhilmil residential project across the Buriganga river in Keraniganj. Around 36,000 persons submitted applications in three categories – 2.5 katha, 3 katha and 5 katha plots.

The applicants were classified in 18 categories. Those are: freedom fighters, journalists, government employees, officials and employees of autonomous bodies, officials and employees of armed forces, businessmen and industrialists, private job holders, private teachers, art, literary and sports personalities, remittance earners, lawyers, agriculturists, engineers, and doctors.
