Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Journalists will observe a three-hour token strike and hold a rally in front of the National Press Club in the capital Dhaka on Wednesday, demanding formation of the 8th wage board.
Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), Bangladesh Sangbadpatra Press Sramik Federation and Bangladesh Sangbadpatra Karmachari Federation and journalists’ union leaders took the decision at a meeting on March 22 last.
The token strike will be held from 10am to 1:00pm on the day while the rally in front of the National Press Club at 10:00 am (local time). 
They decided that they would demand resignation of the Information Minister and go for a tougher movement if the 8th wage board is not formed by March 28.
The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on July 18 last asked the Information Ministry to take steps for forming the 8th wage board for journalists after discussions with all stakeholders.
She gave the directive when a delegation of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) led by its President Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and Secretary General Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan met her at the Prime Minister’s Office.
